Award-winning Sons of the San Joaquin Coming to Black Oak Casino
Western band praised by Roy Rogers will perform Thursday, Nov. 20th at 8 pm
The Western trio who Roy Rogers compared to his own group, calling them “the only singing group alive who I feel sound like the original Sons of the Pioneers,” will be performing at the Black Oak Casino next month. The Sons of the San Joaquin are a family band who have been together since 1987, and last month, the group received the Western Music Award at the National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration.
The Sons of the San Joaquin’s songs are written by band member Jack Hannah, who is now recognized as Western music’s #1 songwriter. Hannah has received repeated Songwriter of the Year awards from the Western Music Association, as well as one of the industry’s top honors -- the Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell refers to Jack Hannah as “one of the very best cowboy songwriters."
The Sons of the San Joaquin have performed at venues worldwide from Switzerland to Japan to the Arabian Peninsula, and their live performances range from rodeos in the West to New York City’s Carnegie Hall. In addition, they have made television appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, Austin City Limits, Nashville Now, American Music Shop, Prime-Time Country, and Old Time Country Music
They have recorded more than a dozen albums, many of which have been given awards by the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. In 2006, The Sons of the San Joaquin were inducted into the Western Music Association Hall of Fame.
