P.J. Haggerty Wins Battle at Black Oak Lanes
Clovis man who is the Professional Bowler's Association's
2009 Rookie of the Year takes home grand prize

The Professional Bowler's Association 2009 Rookie of the Year, P.J. Haggerty from Clovis, CA won the Fourth Annual Battle at Black Oak Lanes in an exciting final game that went down to the 10th frame. Haggerty took the title with a 202-192 victory over Wayne Garber of Modesto. Haggerty was awarded a $2,500 prize and 2nd place finisher Garber took home $1,400. Dave Wodka of Chatsworth, CA placed third and Eddie Kunkle of Daly City, CA placed fourth.

The tournament took place May 29-31 and featured the strongest field of bowlers that Black Oak Lanes has seen to date. Seven past National Title Champions and five 2009-2010 PBA Tour exempt bowlers participated. More than 100 spectators turned out to watch the action.

The tournament headlined 35-year-old Tony Reyes of San Bruno, CA and 27-year-old Missy Belinder of Fullerton, CA. Reyes is only the third bowler in history to shoot a 300 on TV and has nearly $480,000 in total PBA winnings. In addition to his PBA Regional Tour titles, he owns one PBA Tour title. In the 2007-08 season, he finished 25th in the season-opening Japan Cup and 28th in the USBC Masters.

Belinder became the first woman ever to join the PBA in 2004, and is also the first woman ever to win two PBA Regional titles. She bowled her first 300 game at the age of 14, and was the youngest person ever to qualify for the Team USA trials. In addition, Belinder was voted one of the top 100 bowling coaches in the world by Bowlers Journal International in 2007 and 2008.
