Black Oak Casino Team Member Uses Sign Language to Aid in Medical Emergency
TUOLUMNE , CA – October 13, 2007 Randy Nelson, a slot service representative at Black Oak Casino, assisted in a medical emergency on the casino floor by using his skill in American Sign Language to communicate with a hearing impaired guest. Nelson’s ability to communicate with the distressed guest through signing allowed Black Oak staff, Fire, and Ambulance personnel to provide the appropriate treatment. Brian Machado, Public Safety Coordinator at Black Oak Casino, said “Randy’s skill with sign language potentially saved the patient’s life.” Nelson was awarded a Casino “Above and Beyond Award” for his use of sign language to aid in bringing this critical event to a successful conclusion.
